St. Michael's Manor has been owned by the Newling Ward family since 1965 when David Newling Ward set up the business with his late parents. The hotel has, in its time, been run by Grandfather, Father and Son. However the current General Manager is Paul Crossey who has been with the Hotel since 2002.
Located in the historic district of St. Albans, with its 70 listed buildings, old inns and mills, the Manor is situated within 7 acres of manicured gardens and backs on to the river Ver and Verulamium Park. The hotel is in the shadow of the magnificent Abbey and is a mere 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
The hotel has always considered personal customer contact to be the cornerstone of their multi-award winning success.
Maintaining Personal Rapport
Whilst the owners were happy to embrace the internet as an advertising medium, they still wanted to maintain the personal rapport with their customers when it came to booking the rooms.
In 2006, Paul was persuaded that what the customer really wanted was the ability to make a reservation at his hotel whilst looking at the website. They chose the Sensible-Rez web booking engine to provide their customers with this service.
Delighted With The Results
“We have been delighted with the results that the Sensible-Rez web booking engine has given us. The majority of our weekend business now comes from the internet. And best of all, we don’t have pay any commission on that business.” Said Paul Crossey, General Manager.
With internet distribution now becoming an ever more important part of any hotels marketing strategy, St.Michael’s adopted the Sensible-Rez Distribution Management Service at the start of 2008.
Paul added "Although we have only 30 rooms, more of our corporate customers were demanding the ability to reserve on one of the GDS systems. Additionally, the internet distribution offered by Sensible-Rez means that we can reach more leisure customers but we are not compelled to discount our rates."
